The Products
Here you'll find a general outline of how I go about batiking and tie-dyeing. I am still learning - one reason I have so
much fun with it. So please, don't take any of this as expert advice. There are so many different ways to dye fabric, so
many different types of dyes you could use. These are just 2 possibilities. . .
Jacquard Procion MX dyes

Sodium Carbonate aka Soda Ash
(for fixing the dye)

Synthrapol
(detergent to prevent color bleeding)

Batik wax
(50% beeswax, 50% parrafin)

Why I use Procion dyes:
Procion dye is a fiber reactive dye used on natural materials - cotton, silk, wool, etc. The dye is set with the fabric
using sodium carbonate (very similar to baking soda), not heat. This is important for batik. It is non-toxic and has
long lasting color fastness so it will not bleed onto other fabrics (after the initial washings).
